About The Prints:  Frequently Asked Questions

“Image Quality”

The images of the artwork on this website have all been compressed for  convenience in downloading to view the art.  In the process of compressing, the quality of the fine detail is somewhat compromised.  Carol’s style and technique is a finely precise rendering with careful attention to natural color and startling realism and  detail.  The  print that is received will reflect these fine qualities and will be of breathtaking realism and beauty.

s/n- Signed and Numbered by the artist, means only a limited amount of numbered prints are made  and signed by the artist.

a/p- Artist Proof, means a smaller number of artist proofs are made, usually 10%, but not always, of the edition size. (see below).

“Offset Lithographs”

The portfolio of fine art collector prints, signed & numbered by the artist, Carol Decker, are printed on 100% acid-free, museum quality  premium art stock with non-fading inks and ample margins. These are usually printed in large quantities and there is nothing intrinsically wrong with offset lithograph prints, they are just another way of reproducing art.

“Artist Proofs”

Historically when an artist printed their artwork, they would have to be on hand to make adjustments to the printing process to make it just right. As a result, the first few reproductions were always a little different. Hence the name, “artist proof”. Since the advent of computerization into the printing industry, this is no longer necessary; each print is identical. However, the tradition of having artist proofs outside of the numbered edition is very desirable and very collectible. These prints are for the artist’s personal use and each is signed in gold on the image by the artist and marked AP. Since they are signed differently from the rest of the signed and numbered edition, and only 250 artist proof prints are available, they are considered to be collector’s editions of the print and are often more coveted by collectors for that reason.

“Giclee”

A giclee reproduction, pronounced (zhee-clay), is a high-resolution print individually produced on a special large format printer from a digital scan of the original artwork. The printer finely “sprays” ink onto to the specially treated archival canvas or museum quality 100% cotton rag paper with a longevity rating of nearly 100 years. As with other printing methods, the artist approves “proofs” of the art print to insure the quality of the work is of the highest quality standards.  A giclee reproduction has the look of an original painting by the artist, Carol Decker, with intense color and fine detail.

“Archival” means non-fading or light fast. In other words, these prints won’t fade for a long time, treated with care. Our equipment uses pigment-based inks, (as opposed to dye-based inks), and the molecular structure of the inks contribute to their longevity.
